FIRESTORM.

I like propigated coral because they have proved themselves sucessful in captivity.

That being said, caps lock OFF please, and punctuation is our friend.

'propagated' can mean aquacultured in ocean pens/open water, or in aquaria/artificial systems-all originally come from wild parent broodstock, or settled larva that are then 'farmed'

all are superior to harvesting directly from the reef to go directly to an end consumer-the latter is very wasteful, and far more high impact upon reef ecology

:)

I agree with you all, just most aquacultured corals are ocean propiggated(lol)which in reality is no different than wild they have the same parents.

NOT correct, young grasshopper

one mother wild colony, fragged, and propped in an ocean pen/farm can produce thousands of frags for end user consumption-one wild colony goes to one end user-see the difference? :)

Where are they both housed thats right the ocean see where im coming from

Yes, you're correct that these frags might not be as hardy as those raised in an indoor facility.
There are other factors as Vitz and others have pointed out though, so they are still not the same as purchasing wild colonies.

Again, punctuation is your friend. Know it, love it, be it.

You're not in the Ivy League, you're amongst people who have moved beyond the 3rd grade, and appreciate posts that reflect this.

I agree, though. It's pretty simple to punctuate. :P

Sorry,

You cannot type very "well", technically.

We prefer to think of our selves as "Macro Algae" league. Ivy is far to terrestrial for most of us.

No doubt that 'wild' and aqua cultured coral will grow in well maintained home environment, but if I were a betting man, I would always put my money on the 'propagated' coral.

Wild colonies generally leave you a smaller margin for error, and don't grow as quickly. It's not, and never was a question of whether or not wild corals can be maintained. It's a question of how suitable for captivity they are vs captive frags, and they almost always fall short in this regard for various reasons already mentioned.

k, guys, back off, eh ? :P

this is a reef forum-not analgrammar.org :P

would be a shame to have someone leave and forgo an education and help because of some light, possibly even well meaning 'snobbery' ?
