When you stare at an actinic bulb- what exactly are those dots you see flying around?

You shouldnt stare at bright lights for too long.

I think its excited gas moving around in the bulb and its moving orderly in a frequency.

It’s actually a phenomenon that is seen by the human eye at a certain nanometer level. There are no physical swirly things in the lamp. Lamps that peak in the 420-460 range will often cause this. Ever notice that it doesn’t happen with a blue 7100K lamp?

Yers, the swirly thing actually appear to be outside the bulb, IMO.

Any idea how the phenomenon actually works? Are we sure that its the color of the light and not something unique about "actinic"?

Is the swirls visible on captured video, or you need to view it directly to see it?

I think low voltage to a bulb will do it too. Or bad bulbs do it too. I seen it happen in other white bulbs, you can see them moving and dancing back and forth through the tube.

So your wife use that PVC pipe to wreck your head when she feel you stared at the tank longer than what you did when she was in a bikini this past summer?
