I've decided to move my Snowflake Eel into a species only aquarium and got a good deal on a 50 gallon acrylic tank.

The back is clear and I was wondering if it would be okay to paint the back black? Is it safe? What kind of paint should I use? Will it even stick to acrylic?

Thanks for your input.

Yes, you can paint the back of your tank. Most people do.

I think any kind of paint will work. I have used spray and brushed paints. Brushed paint works out better IMHO. Just pick a color you like at HD and buy the smallest amount they'll mix.

Put 4 or 5 coats on there.

I painted with regular run of the mill beher paint in the smallest portion that HD would mix. I got a very very deep blue and wish I had gone a deeper blue, almost black. The lights hitting it are som bright it really lightens the blue up. You can see my thread in the member tank area and it is a painted back.

Krylon Fusion spray paint works the best. It provides a molecular bond which will prevent leeching. I've used it in my tanks on PVC piping and have yet to have a problem. I HIGHLY recommend using this for painting your tank.

Ditto. Get this brand. You won't be sorry. I've used it to paint several acrylic tanks and it works great.
