Tank is currently empty of water. That will all change tonight! I will test the flow configuration tonight and make adjustments tonight/tomorrow.

Jim, just curious, why don't the platforms fill up more front to back space? :?

Do you plan on covering up the bottom half of the aquarium?
Whoops, forgot to get back to this thread. Good question Matt. I have since added an additional plastic sheet to close the gap. I originally wanted to see what a partial baffle would do and the answer of course is that you really need full width baffles to avoid contamination of the gyre circuit. No surprise but it was interesting to do it incrementally and watch the flow changes. There will be a long, detailed and boring write up in the new next issue.
On the performance side, I think that the combination of a gyre and a penductor has given me the flow i wanted relatively cheaply and I'd recommend either or both to anyone with a reef tank.
I'll take some pics tomorrow and post to this thread.

Knowing Jim not much live rock will be put on there ;) But I agree, they do look a little thing for long term support.
As you've seen Gresham, but I'll explain for everyone else, I went to Tap plastic and bought 4 sheets of ABS sized 16"x22" each. I was going to get acrylic but it was twice as much and didn't look as good. I Weldon'd one of those to the top of each of the acrylic platforms and tried they gyre that way. Too much contamination. So I used a clear sheet and filled the last 2" horizontal gap. The shelves actually supported 20-30lbs of rock each in the beginning but it's almost all gone to the sump now except for 2 pieces (maybe 40 lbs).
