hey guys/gals i was wondering if it is normal for mushrooms to just up and detach there heads. today i seen i mushroom head floating around in my tank so i graped it and glued it to a piece of rock rubble and put it in my fuge, thought maybe the local lfs could give it to someone wanting to try corals out. anyway is this normal for them to do? i have recently set up a 180 and i never really saw this happen in my 55. it looks like the new stub will in return grow a head. thanks in advance. oh i have pic coming of the new set up waitng for mother in law to put pics on disc than i will have to resize them.

If it's the whole mushroom, I think, if they are unhappy enough (too much light or current), they will detach and try living someplace else. Also, mushrooms do migrate slowly on their own. It's possible to have them migrate onto a bit of loose detritus and slip off the rock too. I've seen that before.

If it's just the head ripped off of the trunk, then they don't do this on their own. A critter or some other physical trauma caused this.
