Recently my water has been getting increasingly cloudy almost light a white milky appearance. Everything is thriving and I don’t see any visible problems our water parameter problems. I ran some carbon today and am making a batch of water for a water change. Any ideas on what could be causing this? Could this be a calcium alk problem? Thanks, Mike

Could be a temporary bacterial bloom. FWIW, Cloudiness has happened a lot in my tank lately, but I finally found out that it was because one of my stupid wrasses has taken up a habit of digging up the sand in his sleeping area.

Carbon and/or ozone should fix it.

But cyro has a good point. Any macro algaes?

I did a 30 gallon water change last night and the water is still coudy so taday I tested for amonia and it was elevated now. Any ideas what would cause the ammonia to go up like that other than over feeding? I am preparing to do another water change now.

i have the same problem last week. water temprature rises to 32 C. i can not see / understand unfortunately. i got chiller and 3 thermometers but they were in sump! and sump shows the normal parameters.
i understand that everybody must uses thermometers in main tanks also.

rising temp. kills something and this cause the ammonia problem.
something must be dead in your tank and this rises ammonia
(if not a new tank). and this causes new dyings.

important thing is oxygen. you must add air pumps. you can add carbon and ammonia removers urgent. water changes can be help to solve this problem also. you need good skimmers in this period.
i overcome this problem in 3 days. but all my 14 acros, shrimp, dottyback.. died.
this is one of the biggest problem in aquariums. and needs urgent intervention.
