Without any food?

I haven't fed mine in weeks, I have went a month before the last time I fed it.

Its the only fish in the tank. It seems to be living on the algae growing everywhere.

I really thought the whole tank would of died by now given that I haven't done anything to it in months.

So, do clownfish live on algae in the wild?

How can you just sit there and wait for something to die?

I'm not actually waiting for it to die, but it seems to be fine, its actually grown a bit in the last couple months.

Plus feeding it just makes more algae in my tank....

If you want to know "exactly" how long they'll last, the answer is four weeks, two days, seven hours, 28 minutes and three seconds.

By my calculations, you have exactly four seconds to feed them before they die.

Uh..oh....too late.

Damn!!!

P.S. Sarcasm intended......I just couldn't refuse. Please feed your fish. As you have guessed, they're finding something to eat in order to survive (whether it be algae or whatever). I REALLY hate liver, but I'm pretty sure I would eat it before I let myself die (I guess I would eat fishtank algae too). Rugby players eat each other before they let themselves die, but they would be quite bummed out if they discovered you had some nice hamburgers in your freezer only a few feet away. Please take a moment or two to feed your fish something healthy and nice to eat.

And no...I don't think they eat algae in the wild.

this whole thread is depressing.
feed your fish and find out why your tank has algae
all over it.

do you treat your cats or dogs the same way?

I hear he's an anti dentite.

I once forgot about one of those buffalo suckers in a 10 gallon in a shed behind the house, and after about 2 years I realized there was still about an inch of water in there and when I pulled it out it was still floppin around. Had to rescue his ass and set him free. He earned it.

How's it sad if its an experiment?

And I happen to like algae, I have probably 6 or 7 different types in there.

If only I could get the glass to clean itself I would be a happy man....

2 things.

1. My wife fed it. Its fatter now than the last time I saw it which was about 2 weeks ago (haven't been cleaning the glass)

2. I got a PM from Beaslebob and here it is.

FWIW A clownfish (or an other) can live indefinatly without us adding food to the tank. That is providing the tank is setup correctly.

After all that is the way the ocean and wild FW systems feed their fish.

As you know I start all my tank with plant life. Then add a single fish. And not add any food for a week. The fish simply eats the food from the plant life or the plant life itself. Additionally, when I fed even a single flake of fish food per day, that first fish died on the 5th day just like clock work.

There was a poster here who had a 55g with a 55g refugium. The only food he added was some occasional nori for the tang. Yet the madrain gobie was fat with all the food it ate.

To me the single most common reason fish die is simply over feeding. Not from "stuffing" the fish but the deterioriating conditions of the tank from the food added.

So the only correct answer to your question if the clownfish can live indefinately with no added food. Regardless of what the flamers post. Laughing

I detest the PM system, its the stupidest thing I ever saw. Everything should be out in the open.

For the record by the way, I have been hungry before, so I don't really feel sorry for the fish, its actually eating....

Well, this is a family forum, but suffice it to say they are mostly found in Tennesee and Kentucky, and they usually have a combination grandma/sister/wife.......
