Martini's and watch the tank, starts out with the moon light on then when they go off the red LED's come on, many short nights of sleep do to this. I know I spend more one on one watching the tank like this then I do with the lights on. The fish and corals are just there to look nice, the night life is the most interesting, IMO, or maybe it is just the Martinis!!!!!!!!

I often stare at my tank with the LED moonlights on. Every now and then, I'll bust out a red LED to inspect the crawly things that come out of the rocks.
On a related note, fish behave very interestingly when the lights are very dim.
Oh man, I like the martini idea. My wife would go nuts for that; just to spend some time with me. She saw a crab come out last night and wouldn't put the flashlight down.
You got a pretty nice tank Tenchi. I spend some time in front of my tank every night too. It's very relaxing. Do you have LED moonlights also? I have moonlights and it really makes night time viewing better.
I wired up some blue LED's as ngihtlights. I unhooked the circuit for a while, and the roommate sez "when you going to turn the led's back on. I like seeing the tank at night!"
why are red LED's the preferred spectrum for night scoping? As compared to blue LED's? I have been using a flashlight but it disturbs the crabs and fish when it points in their direction.
Red does not open your Iris in your eyes, or is it the pupil. I have blue and red LED's in my light system, I also wear a cheap RayOvac head lamp that has a red LED in it. Camping, hiking and some big box home improvement stores have them and they are about $15.00
