i'd like to ask a question about nano tanks in this forum. mainly because i am just asking for opinion.

what is a nano?

my girlfriend has a 30 gallon cube, and it will have a 10 gallon sump. is that a nano?

i saw a guy posting in the nano forum about plans to build a system which consisted of a 5.5 gallon display, and a 55 gallon sump. is that a nano?

i also saw a similar setup featured in advanced aquarists online magazine, as a nano. is that really a nano?

what do you all consider a "nano"? :?

I think a nano should be consider anything with 15g of water or less a “nano” (a 5.5 with a 55 sump is not a nano IMO).

Just wanted to add one of my LFS has a 2.5g Now that’s a nano :D .

You asked for an opinion and I have always thought (for as long as I had salt) any thing under 15 is a nano.

I think most people say 29 and under. :)

I don't consider anything larger than a 15 gallon a nano. 20 gallon marine tanks have been common for quit some time, long before the term "nano" became fashionable.
Calling a 30 gallon a nano is just silly IMO.

interesting thread, i can be swayed both ways, the person who has a 5 galllon nano tank with the 55 gallon sump does have a nano tank as the display. but it is a 60 gallon system. hmmm not sure

I would switch it around and have the 55 as the display and get a 10 gallon on the fuge anyhow.

I have a 125 so I consider the 55 gallon a nano also. imo/ime

I have 2 of what I would consider nanos one has a total gallons at 2.5 and the other has a total gallons at 15. I have heard people call 29 total gallons and smaller nanos. I say total gallons because I believe it has to be put in when considering how big a system is. But opinions will vary on the subject as you have seen so far in this thread. :)
