Where do you purchase your PVC fittings/valves?

I'm trying to find a place or online store that has cheaper PVC valves. I'm looking at buying about 10 ball valves and was considering going with the union ones. Cheapest place I've found was Savko so far, but it is still going to cost me either 20 bucks for the single union ball valve (1.5") or 25 bucks for the true union (1.5"). Multiply that by 10... and you know the rest.

Anyone know where to find them cheaper? Going with a separate ball valve and unions from HD or Lowes will end up being the same. Or do I just need to bite the bullet!?

I buy regular PVC stuff from Savko. I buy the grey stuff from USplastics (not cheap).

They're not really specific to plumbing, but I rather like Aquatic Ecosystems for online stores. They have a very good selection of the plumbing supplies you would generally use in the hobby, plus a few odd ball parts that odd balls like myself manage to find some uses for.

If I went with HD or Lowes, I'd have to get the ball valves and the unions separate, which I guess wouldn't be that big of a deal. Now, if only I could find a HD coupon.

I tend to use either my local hardware store or Lowes. There's been too many times that I piece something together and suddenly realize it ain't gonna work so back to the store I go.

If you go with single ball valves, be careful about which ones you buy. Some designs are not intended to seal when disassembled and they are no good for our application.

You mean the single union ball valves? So, if you shut the valve it still leaks? :?

Yeah, sorry - I meant single union ball valves.

Yes, with some designs, if you shut the valve and break the union it will leak. These units are designed with a seal that can easily be replaced (the seal can be removed when the union is broken) and they will not hold back water when disassembled. Not useful in our application. :wink:

Yah, David Cripe turned me onto that while I was at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. He was showing me the old model of Asahi to the new version (both single union BV). I watched as the BV popped right out under pressure

FWIW< I buy my Asahi BV from Ebay I'm sitting on a small fortune of them right now

My Lowes carries every size from 1/2" for $5 up to 2" for $24.
