Adding refugium - use new sand or existing sand?

I currently have a 15g growout tank with about an inch of sand. I have an algae problem - can't tell if its bryopsis or hair algae. Everyweek it grows/clings to the rubble that I have frags mounted too and there are tufts sticking to my sand.

I have a 6 gallon refugium I'm about readt to add. I plan to remove all the sand in the grow-out tank. Would it be advisable to use this sand that has had the bryopsis or hair agae in it and throw it in the fuge or start with new sand in the fuge?

What’s your clean up crew and phosphate, nitrate levels?

Have to get a current reading, but last I checked po4-0 NA=5.

Green hair can grow in as little as .5 po4.

I have some blue legs, mexican redlegs, nasarius, astras and a couple of turbos.

Ok ill just tell you what I did for my 29 a few weeks ago...

15% water change every week.
Remove as much as you can.
2 Mexican turbo sanils.
16 astrea snails.
5 blue legs.
11 red legs.

Removed carbon.
Add ghosgard (removes phosphates and silicates).

If there is no corals lower light to 4 hours if there are corals go to 8 hours.

This is what I did to my hair and it was gone in 2-3 weeks.
