I got one this week it was splitting in to two but now less than 3 days later it looks like it's splitting into 4!

Am I missing something or why does it all of a sudden have 4 green center mouths? That seems ridiculously fast.

In my experience, they sometimes stay "dormant," but then they can go ape and multiply like crazy in a matter of a few weeks. It's going to take some time before those new mouths split into separate ricordea polyps.

once i had a ricordia that, like len said, must have been dormant.. it had 2 mouths , but NEVER split. I could have probably fragged it with success.

Well it looks like ALL my ricordias are multiplying right now. The one with four mouths looks like it is about to split, which is a HUGE change from just this morning. It's barely attached now, and the other ones either have multiple mouths or look like the mouth is splitting.

Crazy. Did not expect that.

I've had them go crazy and split in a matter of days, and I had one that started then stopped- it had two mouths, and never went on to split during the next two years I had it.

Just wait until it splits and either spread them around in your tank or sell the extras.. :D I'd figure if they're going to all that work of splitting and such, they must really like your tank..

Are these Ricordea florida or Ricordea yuma? I can't keep yumas alive to make it to splitting :(

What is the difference? I don't know it. I believe the Yumas are the ones splitting like crazy. I think I only have one florida and it looks like it wants to start, but hasn't yet.

if you feed them they will split faster IME.
as for yumas or florida ric's...you can tell the difference by what you paid for them

A good question. Both my rics and yumas do as explained above: periods of rapid splitting followed by months of nothing.

Maybe I need to smile pretty for them when I approach the tank.
