Anyone recommand open up the chiller and put in a longer cord?

Yep! But that only deals with one of the issues brought up against extension cords - the actual plug. There still remains the solid vs stranded wire and the insulation problems (though the insulation on romex or 12/2 doesn't seem all that impressive).

The wire run would be under the house so it would be 12/2 if I ran a new box.

I talked to yet another electrician about this and he laughed at me saying 'get an appliance extension cord, everything else is the company covering its butt'.

So heavy duty 15 foot x cord to a gfci outlet, chiller plug and female end of x cord, baggied and taped and affixed above all the tanks, and the chiller is up an running. :D Thanks guys!
