I have been given a frag of a leather finger. it's fairly large cutting (around 3" sq. It came from a monster of a coral that was doing very well. I have banded this frag onto a piece of LR but it's not looking good. The fingers seem very limp and are hanging over the edge of the rock. It still has its color but very few polyps are on display. It has been in my tank for two weeks but has failed to bond to the LR. I have a xenia and cauliflower that are all doing well. Any ideas on how to improve the health of this frag. Is the elastic band causing distress?

It cound be just getting use to your tank. If it is not rotting/dieing then I would not do anything. Was this a fresh cutting when you got it? If it was the stress of the cut plus being moved could increase the time it takes to recover. Also, make sure your elastic band is not to tight. If it is it will cut through the coral.

Yeah, make sure the band is not too tight. They do go limp, and does not extend for a few days, sometimes weeks, and for no appearant reason. Then a shiny coating will come off, and back to its happy self again. They do it periodically in my tank FWIW :?

Yup, they do that. When I had leathers they would "shed" from time to time. Freaked the hell out of me the first time.
