The other day I thought my ridordea was dying.. Now I think it might be splitting.. Is this possible? The other day it went totally black in the middle but the rim stayed blue/green.. Now it looks like it's splitting into three or four pieces.. Or is this just the way it dies? Sorry for the crappy pictures.. My battery decided to die on me.. I'll take better ones later when it's recharged..

It doesn't appear to be splitting. It looks more like it is stressed out. They do split though. How much light do you have it under. They generally prefer to be in lower light sections of the tank rather than in direct light, assuming you have pretty bright lights such as most halides.

Jury is still out on whether it's splitting or not.. But it's definitely not dying.. It looks very healthy except for the fact that it doesn't open all the way..

In the wild, they do not face the sun, but rather tend to grow perpendicular to the sun. It may take no more than just tilting the rock at an angle up against your other rockwork.

Let me guess, that polyp has a purple center and blue green rim. It looks ticked off to me. Mine has never split but rather slowly "walks" and leaves babies behind in its trail. When it isnt "walking" so to speak, it sprouts babies from its foot. I have several colonies in various places. From low to high light. One polyp is actually thriving next to some SPS under 250 10Ks high in the tank. One thing I can tell you. My colonies dont like strong flow. Keep it in a med light, low flow area and it should open nice and wide.
