Hi,

My chiller, which is water cooled and which I absolutely love, has now begun its process of final catastrophic failure. I've tried to have it fixed many a time, and what the fixes amount to are band-aids on the problem (put more coolant in, charge me a fortune), so I think it's time to hunt for a new chiller. I love the water-cooled design, as it allows me to run the chiller in the sump room without any additional heat to the house or the room. Unfortunately, they're not being made any more.

As such, does anyone have good suggestions for chillers for this size (1000 gallons) aquarium? If recommending an air-colled chiller, other than venting the room (which it is), how to you recommend removing the heat? If recommending an outdoor chiller, which ones to you recommend, and how long do they last? Does anyone know of water-cooled chillers out there for sale?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks.

My Aqualogic is used outdoors and has been running fine for over 10 years. The only protection I have against the elements is barriers to keep water away from the electrical parts (a roof over the enclosure and a water barrier above the outlet). I love their chillers and would recommend them.

For a 1000 gallon, you're looking for at least 1hp, and maybe 1.5hp (depending on your pull down needs). I would recommend chillers of this size to be used outdoors only, unless you have a very good HVAC system to vent the hot and humid air.
