120g FWLR and SPS corals. Geo-Reef Calc Reactor. Euro Reef Skimmer

450ppm \
DKH 12. Amonia 0, Nitrates 0, PH8.52 - Yellow water
25% water changed twice in past week, water still has a yellow tinge to it. Protein skimmer is producing golden waste at a high rate requiring emptying the collection cup two to three times a day. I have heard that my corals may have spawned and no amount of filtration will clear up the water. I will continue to change 25% over next couple of days.

Is spawning a direct cause for yellow tinge in my water?

Sounds like algae.

Do you happen to have a UV light plumbed into the system?

Especially if you have algae.

I would be willing to wager that you are not having a spawning event. You need to find out where the excess nutrient is coming from.

Run a good quality activated carbon on the tank, that should help whatever it is.

I am really starting to think that this may be related to the new batch of Seachem salt purchased three weeks ago. i have tested a small batch with some RO water and it in fact has turned the water into a dark green cloud. I will purchase some trusty Red Sea (used for 1 1/2 now) and see.

Skimmer is dialed down but still producing a lot of waste

The color of the salt and RO water is fine until you mix them? I assume the specific gravity of the newly mixed, green water is normal, right? This is really weird. :?

UPDATE - Salt replaced and ran some sechem matrix carbon in the Fluval cannister for a couple of days - tank has never looked better.

Corals and fish are doing well. Seachem confirm possible poor batch of salt.
