Hey all!
We have a 35 gal reef tank with a clownfish, some crabs, snails, and a tube anemone. We have a 24watt light, which really sucks. I can get a 96 watt light for cheap, but it's specs say it is for freshwater. Does it matter?

Hopefully someone can answer quick, 'cause I'm gonna buy it tomorrow :D

Dont buy it. It does matter VERY MUCH. the quad for FW has a 6700K bulb . For a reef you will want a 10k x actinic or 50x50 bulb to grow corals

IMO if the price is low enough to buy the new bulbs and still be a great value then I would go for it. But I wouldn't use 67k on anything you dont want green to inhabit.

Those lights will be perfectly fine with what you have in your tank. But you will have to upgrade if you want to add any corals in the future.

Your advice was noted, if not a little late :D
I ALSO took the same excellent advice from my LFS, and got a Coralife Compact single strip 50/50. Same wattage, and I can still do corals later if I want.

Thanks again!

I have really lost passion for PC lighting. I had a old VHO ballast die last week on my softie tank and I put up a PC light I had laying around while I waited for my new Workhorse ballast to come. When I restarted the VHO, it was blinding compared to the PC.

I am somewhat tempted to replace my MH with a just VHO on my reef tank....
