I have my 90 In my living room. I'm running into a problem where the durso is sucking alot of air and sounding loud.... i solved THAT problem by drilling a huge hole into the top of the durso and putting a much larger than 1/4" tubing and rand it a ways down behind the tank. Solved the problem of the loud durso..

Now I'm trying to figure out how to regulate the humming of the return pumps....

does anyone have any good tips on how to quiet your pumps?

I have heard Hanging your pumps from the top of the cabinet by some hose does that work?? Right now I tried putting a piece of sponge under the pump and that seemed to have slowed it down a bit but not by a lot. What other suggestions do you guys have?

i found these silicon door bumpers at Home depot. They're round feet in essence. I cut out the self adheseve part and caulked it to the bottom of the pump. So far so good.

Is the return pump submersible? If so, yes, hanging it from above so that the pump body does not actually contact anything but water will help a ton. Your piping will vibrate as well. You can reduce the noise from this by placing foam insulation around key points that rattle, and using flex PVC whenever possible. Even things like a threaded union with teflon tape around the threads and a rubber O-ring inside will help to reduce the vibrations.

I am not a fan of Dursos anymore. They work by sucking air down the drain (creating noise) and then attempting to quiet that noise. There is no reason air has to be sucked down into the overflow drain in the first place. This is another method.

Same function different geometery. They actually work fairly well. IMO many try to push to much through the stand pipes. It may be rated for X gph, but it does not mean it will be quiet at that. I got two 1.5" drain lines with "dursos" on my tank for about 1000 gph and it is silent.

well i was able to quiet the sump by FLARING the end of my bulkhead with a blow torch and bowling ball. then I installed a Filter sock around the fitting and it now has like a 4 inch drop to my sump water line. The FLARE of the lips helps it hit the sides of the filter sock and significantly reduces the rush of the water. I love it!
