i have the most aggressive clown tang in the free world.
it's just a sin to let him torment the rest of the tank the way he does.
i have tried netting him, using a fish trap, even tiny hooks. does anyone have any fresh ideas, before i go to the sporting goods store and pick up a frogman spear for this little #$#%& ?

I hear collecting with cyanide is an efficient means! 8O

I would take a few days and get him used to eat out of your hand with a net in it. Then surprise him one day by scooping him out.

I am surprised the hook didn't work out. That is how I used to remove my native freshwater fish (and test my newly tied flies for effectiveness).

you all know me. you know how I earn a livin. I'll catch this bird for you . But it's not gonna be pleasant. I value my neck a lot more than three thousand bucks chief. yeah I'll find him for three cut I'll catch him and kill him for ten.

Nice Shavo. I love that scene. What a bad ass character.

Mr. X, regrettably I have no advice for you, but I would love to be in your position of having a tank so large that it would be difficult to catch a fish! :D I'm jealous. Seriously, I like the net training idea- though it may take a while. Catch it at night in the dark?

That doesnt work so well with a tank full of corals.

I just stripped my 120 almost completely down to catch a four line wrasse who deserves the death penalty. I wish you luck.

Plop the corals into the frag tank all the LR into a couple coolers and maybe after a six hours and a few tubes of frag glue, all will be good.
Good luck.

SOMETIMES if its completely dark and all of a sudden you ZAP on a lot of light your fish will stay dazed for a few seconds. OR you may try to catch him in the DARK!! just use your nightvision on your video camera :)

Hey mt
That cyanide trick is pretty funny that used to be a common practice in the industry that I am in. I may have even used it a time or two..... oops did I say that out loud. 8O

Katfish - Was that back before we used tractor-pulled seine rolls? I didn't get a full history of catfish production in my crash course when I got here to UAPB....but I have learned that it is not fun tromping around in waist deep water and knee deep clay picking up dead fish with a net and bucket after a fish kill due to an algae crash!

But at least we had plenty of crayfish bait for the season, in fact just put some more traps out for a boil before the duck season opener...

the cyanide was used to kill mudcats because they will bury themselves below the other mud and nothing else will kill them. The government now frowns upon this practice

have you tried using a jar with a mirror affixed to the bottom ?

i've used that 'trick' many times-glue a mirror to the bottom of an appropiate size glass jar, so that the mirror is 'pointed' towards the jar mouth (when you look down into the jar, you see the mirror)

lay it on the tank bottom, wait for the fish to swim across the jar opening and see its reflection in the mirror

<voila'> ;)

i tried placing a mirror against the glass to distract him from attacking the other fish. he acted a little funny going past it for a couple minutes..then ignored it.

maybe you need to think in terms of hours or a few days instead of minutes ;)

I am pretty sure you can get him with the hook. Maybe try not feeding for a day, too make him more hungry and apt to snarf it down.

Or, you really really need to practice your overall fishing skills! 8O

so far i almost caught my sailfin by mistake.
i could easily catch my algae blenny and my maroon clown too. the clown tang is the only one that nibbles at the hook instead of swallowing it. he stole 4 whole silversides cut in quarters off of the hook last night.
i haven't given up yet, although i'm very frustrated.
i'm about ready to throw a hair dryer in there.
