So I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to raise shrimp to a more appealing size. I just got a Dwarf Lion and am trying to entice him to eat frozen shrimp/silver sides (any help with this). With this, I have also set up a brine shrimp hatchery in my refugeium/sump, and want to grow live food for the lion. Does anyone have any ideas for me to ponder? I could always go with fresh water guppies, but we all know what is said about feeding them fresh water fish.
Thank for the help,

J.

You can get live food cultures at Reed Maricluture, Sach's Systems Aquaculture or any number of other suppliers. There's a list here at Seahorse.org., but any Google search for live mysis or ghost ghost shrimp should set you up with a supplier. If you set up a tank for them, they'll keep reproducing and give your lion fish some choices for live food until he gets trained to frozen.

The lion (dwarf) is just a small guy at this moment in time. His body is no bigger then a sliver dollar, and fins vary with mood. I want to keep him small so do you all agree with a once a week feeding?
Just fed him a feeder guppy today and he wolfed it down after trying to get him to take a silver side for an hour. Also, could I not just soak the live guppy in some type of garlic extract? I might do as suggested and get some live shrimp online.

I think your best bet would be to feed him live ghost shrimp for the time being. They are super cheap (around 10 cents) and can be easily kept in a bowl of freshwater until you are ready to feed. Be sure to feed them as well! Your food items are only as nutritious as what they eat. In time it should learn to accept frozen mysis shrimp, krill, etc.
