i need help fast. i have an anemone that looks horible. its loosing its limbs and stuff and its main body looks like bubble gum being stretched out onto the rock. its getting these little stumps where it looses its limbs. and its always looks deflated. its used to be a transparent whitish color with pink tip and peach color base.. now its purple not whitish. is it dieing?

Unfortunately, it sounds like its a goner. I'd remove it and dispose of it before it rots in the tank. Make sure to keep it in a sealed bag as a dying anemone produces a HORRIBLE smell.

i took out the rock that the anemone was attached to and she just let go. i put her in a pail and noticed that she had a huge thing on her side, almost like a tumor. im thinking that she might have gotten cut from one of the above rocks that fell earlier last month. kinda looked like her guts were coming out. and he other side was turning brown . sad to say, but i had to flush her. fresh water tank owners flush goldfish, while us reefers flush anemones

Hey there, I'm sorry for your loss. If you are considering getting a new anemone, I would strongly urge you to purchase a tank-raised or aquacultured specimen, to avoid taking one from the wild. www.drmaccorals.com is a good course for aquacultured bubble tips.

A good brief book (25 pages) on keeping anemones is "Host Anemone Secrets" by Ron Shimek.

What is your lighting set up?

Thanks, Peter

I have a 30" 150W Sunpod HQI . The guy at the store told me it was good for corals and everything. I really hope he was right. I have 3 other anemones. I have a 20 gallon tank. I just like anemones for some reason. They look cool.

You say that the anemone still has its color? If it has been healthy till now then reproduction is an option over dying....have you considered this?

Your anemone may be splitting; hence the 'tumor' on it's side. They have a tendency to hide and withdraw before splitting. Unfortunately people often think they are dying and remove or kill them when all they are trying to do is reproduce. I wonder how many anemones have been lost due to this misconception.

THat really sucks. I quit trying to keep anemones a while back. One thing I noticed is they HATED my sunpod, but loved my Power Compacts.
