Awesome. Good luck with the new build. Some day, I'll have an in-wall too :) I'm like you (probably worse!) ... I have absolutely no woodworking skills.

You got the future wife to agree to that? Your doing well then my man! No defference to the women of Reefkeeping, but in general, new wife=no reef. Unless your one of the lucky few who's wife is willing to get her hands wet too.

Looks like a good plan, good luck!

BTW LEN HAS YET TO SHOW US PICS OF HIS TANK. I MEAN AQUARIUM (NO CHEATING LIKE LAST TIME, LIKED THE M1A1 PIC THOUGH!

Im fooling around with the aquascape right now. I am going to drill, pin and epoxy the structure in about 3 separate pieces in case I ever need to disassemble. Question, I am going bare bottom, so I would think a bare bottom would need more rock than a tank with a substrate bottom. Any suggestions on how much rock to use? I have about 75-80 pounds of rock plus I will put the live rock from my other tank to give me about 110 pounds or so. Should this be enough? I have seen some bare bottom tanks that were almost all rock.

Sometimes less rock is better then more, depends on your taste and how you are planning to grow your tank. More well trimmed corals or less large colonys.

I perfer less rock and more open space. The real key to BB is high flow to keep the detritus suspened and no dead spots behind rock where you cant siphon it away.

GL!

Somethings to keep in mind :

  • where will you be placing corals

how well is the space designed/structured to handle fast/slow growing corals

how much current will the various spaces expect to receive

in the case of a disaster whats the worst that could happen if a rock fails or some how gets moved

What will inverts do, where can they go to hide, does my rock have enough places for small wrasses etc to hide/sleep

with a bare bottomed tank how easy/hard is it to get to the corners and places to siphon the tank?

    etc.

Got the rest of the corner cleaned up. I threw away 10 trashbags of drywall. I can't believe the trashman actually took them!! Hopefully I will be able to get the stand built and some framing up by the end of the week.

I'm not suprised he took them. Its his job. I would be real suprised if you dont see it reflected in your bill though. Maybe you will be lucky and caught him on a good day and you wont get charged. It does happen.

Looking good.

So I finally got my tank situation straightened out, so back to work(a few days behind) Starting to get some framing up. I found an unused drain cut-in hidden under the carpet! I hope to make some kind of drain from the tank for water changes. Does anyone have any input?? I was thinking of maybe t-ing off of the plumbing into the sump with a ball valve or something??

Thats sooo cool. I want to do an inwall tank once I get my own house. I would just make sure that drain is intended for waste and isnt a turned off water pipe. I have a bare bottom tank and will be posting pics soon.

Hello Blackcloudmedia, I poured a gallon of water down that pipe to see what would happen?? I'm pretty sure its a drain, but I am going to get a friend thats good with plumbing to help me.
Here are some more framing pics. I never realized I had a bald spot until last night!! Not a real happy moment for me! My girlfriend thought it was funny.

Got some more framing up. I need to get some sheets of sheetrock but really have no way to get it back from Lowes. Hopefully I can track down a truck this week.
