I dont know if this setup will or will not work. A friend of mine is designing this setup to work with two pumps.

this is the steps: (red means unprocessed water, blue means processed.)

1.water drains into the sump on the right.
2. the water in the sump on the right is pumped with hammerhead into a sump upstairs.
3. the sump upstairs (top view) filters it with skimmers, refugiums, ect.
4. some of the water is brought to the chiller (eco cooler)
5. the water from the refugium and eco cooler join at a T.
6. the water is returned sump on the left.
7. the water is pumped by barracuda pump.
8. the pumped water is pushed through the oceans motions 4way
9. the cycle begins again.

!!concerns.
1.micro bubbles from the decent of water from the upstairs.
2. dualing pumps?

Any input would be awesome.

why the multiple sumps?
it could just be pumped upstairs via closed line and utilize a greater portion of the head capacity.. same for the the other pump.. if it were just pumped out of the chiller and directly to the wave device... not that i would do that.

i think this would work better as gravity return.

then run the Oceans Motions thing on a closed loop.

I think trying to sync 2 pumps with 2 different flows and different head pressures would be a nightmare trying to get them to match. I agree with podman as far as method.

gravity return would be great, but with all the micro bubbles caused from the decent from upstairs to the tank would be problematic.

Am I seeing this wrong, or are you looking a flood if one of the pumps fail?

It seems to me that the drains will continue to drain to both sumps. The sump with the failed pump would overflow.

the bubbles are not an issue if the sump is designed right. My water falls ~12' feet into my sump and i have no micro bubble issues.

Also have a basement sump. Between filter socks over the returns then baffles after them and the skimmer, no microbubbles make it to the return pump.
