I seem to have found that no matter how many bethnic pods I try to put in my tanks they always end up as food and hence depleted. I'm curious to know if reefers could purchase a small "block" loaded with bethnic pods if it would be helpful to add often to help keep the population up, and hence feed Mandarins, corals, and other shy reef critters.

They don't sell bethnic pods thou.

Is there a difference?
I would think that any pods that came from deep within the recesses (Benthic areas)of your LR would stay there and reproduce. FWIW all of the pods in the dark areas of my fuge look the same as the ones in my display. When I set up my 450g system this fall I will have a cryptic and benthic zone. I expect the pods to all be the same. My thought of benthic is lower light and flow without predation where there would be more feather dusters and sponges than anything. Ill be curious to see what will grow in a no light low flow crytpic tank.

There are several places that sell benthic amphipods. aquaculturestore.com, ispf.com and a couple of others.

If you are selling, the key would be price. :D

Amphipods? he just said 'pods. Since most amphipods are benthic I would think the poster would be talking about copepods?

What Reed sells is a dual pupose. The copepidites are benthic and the adults are pelagic :)

I meant isopods and amphipods. Copepods aren't for slow or immobile reef inhabitants.
I beg to differ. Copepods tend to be slower then both you mentioned and are prefect feeds for immobile reef inhabitants. Studies have shown gut contents of many immobile reed inhabitants to have a large number of copepods in them.
