I just got this book yesterday in the mail. Thought it would have some nice eye candy to add to my collection. I am reading through and get to Lens old tank. I was thinking man theres Lens old tank. He had a website going, posted pics RDO, had his tank in books, and now he won't even share a picture with us, lol.

Seems like a pretty cool book so far, never can go wrong with a new reef book.

hehehehe. Well, my new tank is actually slowly recovering from all the horrible past incidences, so I just might take some pics some day ;)

Ah is Len's tank in there? I have the book, which is nice to flip through every now and again to remind me what I want in a tank.

I dunno I like it, I knew it was mostly photographed in 01' before I bought it and really just bought it for the eye candy. I already own most other reef books and series so it was one more for the collection.

Speaking of books I was in books a million trying to find a field guide to corals and they didnt have one. There were tonnes of fish guides. Does anyone know of a good field guide to corals that actually HELPS identify corals rather than leave you with ten possible species for your coral.

Can't recall the title offhand, but there's a similar book (only not limited to just reef tanks) by the Senske brothers that I thought had much nicer tanks. Worth tracking down if that sort of thing interests you.

Also, the tank of Len's that's pictured in the Paletta book never really existed. The photos of it are all CGI compositions put together by an ex-employee from Industrial Light&Magic. Seriously.

Veron's 'Corals of the World' is the best guide of it's sort I know of. Still doesn't always make it easy, though.

Verons 3 book set corals of the world is awesome reading though. I love sitting in bed late at night looking through it, always the one with the acros lol.

Theres simple ones like "A practical guide to corals for the reef aquarium" by Ed Puterbaugh and Eric Borneman. This was one of my first reef books, its pretty beginner stuff so not sure what level you were looking for, or if they even publish it anymore. I remember getting when it came out in 96' thinking it was super cool.

I added a neon green polyp toadstool to my softy tank at work a few days ago, its only a nano 9 gal tank so not much in there. I asked one of my employees if she liked the new coral in the tank and she replied where is it? Is it that pink spot on the back?" lol I was like "no thats coraline algae, its the thing right in front center." So I guess we all start somewhere.....

Corals in the aquarium, or corals in the wild? In the wild you will need to work by region - G Allen has a nice one for indo pacific if you can find it.

The book was a let down in some ways as there are far better tanks than what was in the book, some were pretty average.
You have to consider the dates when most of those tanks were up and photographed. Keep in mind that the hobby has come a LONG way in recent years (mostly due to folks like those in the book who "went first" and freely shared their knowledge).

What's "average" today was seemingly impossible 15 years ago.

Took a look this morning and found the info on that book by the Senskes I mentioned. For anyone interested, it's TheInspired Aquarium

Jeff and Mike are very gifted aquascapers well known in the freshwater hobby, but it's particularly interesting to see their techniques applied to reef tanks.
