My recent pump death has inspired me to update my setup and I'm considering running an inline phosban and carbon reactor (2 seperate reactors).

Does anyone still use these, and what are your thoughts on them?

Also, if you use one, was it store bought or DIY?

Thanks.

I toss carbon in my "reactor" and I have the impression it works better over tossing a bag of it in the sump, however I have no evidence to support it. The reactor is nothing more than an old phosphate reactor I put carbon in instead of powerphos or whatever media.

Which ones are you guys running? Store bought or DIY. Also do you see any issue with putting them inline versus running a seperate pump?

How do you like the Magnavore reactor. I was thinking about trying one of those. Between the Phosban Reactor and the Kent Reactor, I like the Phosban one better. The pads in the Kent reactor are not course enough and get clogged fast. I eventually just through them out completely and it works pretty good now.

I toss the carbon in loose, I can see it tumbling around inside, so that gives me the impression its more effectively absorbing whatever it absorbs.

The reactor i used was the Kent brand one when they came out with the Rhowaphos imitation product, which I don't use anymore, although I might run GFO if I get around to getting another reactor/container and just piggy back them so I can use one pump.

How do you like the Magnavore reactor.

I think it works as well as a phosban reactor, but since it uses these 300 micron screens instead of sponges it is better for finer media. I also like how I can easily rinse the media in it. Overall a nice reactor.
