I came down this morning to strip him and found his belly was fatter than yesterday and his mouth was back to normal! I was pissed! Then I noticed 2 babies in the corner! No pics yet, gotta go to work.
Lessons for me - better places for the babies to hide (real urchin) or strip the kids when they start looking out of the mouth.
When I see the youngsters darting out of the mouth and then back in I wait until lights out and then corral the male into one of those net breeding boxes that hang on the side of the tank. By morning he usually releases and then I let him go and have all the babies neatly isolated. The first clutch of my pair of banggais resulted in 26 babies doing it this way.
Do cardinal fry require rotifers or will enriched brine shrimp work? I'd like to breed some flamefish. I assume they would be similar to breed. Does anyone have any more tips on breeding them or links to more information about it. Lastly, are most cardinals sexually dimorphic?
