Confused about Magflake

I've been using two part solution for a while, but I'm confused about the Magflake (Mg). Did I understand correctly that I'm suppose to add ALL THE MAGFLAKE AT ONCE once I use up the recipe?

any advice ?

What recipe are you following?

Common wisdom is that you shouldn't raise your mag more than 100 a day.

Ok - so what are you asking? In the recipe, you mix it up, then add as needed.

Just so you understand SnowMan's confusion here... the directions on bulkreefsupply.com say to add all the Mg at once:

Once the dose is dialed in continue daily dosing until the gallon jugs of Calcium and Alkalinity are finished. At this point it is time to dose the 20oz bottle of Magnesium. This can be done entirely in one dose just remember to add slowly to a high flow area of the tank.

The theory is that using up a whole gallon of the 2 part solution should leave your Mg depleted to a certain level (based on chemical equations). The bag of MagFlake is supposed to be the exact amount to restore that lost Mg. Unfortunately, I think those calculations are only valid if you're not adding Mg through other additives or water changes.

"Don't dose anything that you can't test for" is still some pretty solid advice. :wink:
