I've been running an undersized skimmer in my tank and now is the time to get the right size & brand.

I'm running a 240 gal tank with a 60 gal sump / refugium. I have a remora hang on, which is under sized for the tank. I've been told to get one that can handle twice the load. I'm running a mixed tank mainly SPS, mushrooms & leathers with 11 fish approx. 30" of bioload.

I've seen that everyone has a better 'mouse-trap'.

Suggestions on size & brand would be appreciated.

There are a lot of possibilities. I like my Deltec, but they are pricey. Bubble King, Bubble Master (ATI), Reeflo, and Barr Aquatics makes nice (but again, pricey) large skimmers. I've seen nice performance from Octopus skimmers and ASM at less price.

As you can tell, I'm partial to needle wheels. It seems to be the way everyone is leaning nowadays too.

Mesh wheel! :D

But yeah, lots of options. However I don't know if I particularly like the advice of "one that can handle twice the load" perhaps this was sound advice when skimmers were being grossly over rated but seems that is typical of the lower end models.

I think if you're on a budget the Octopus Extreme series is worth a look, basically bubble master knock-offs. The Bubble Master 200 might be good for a tank that size, or perhaps even the 250. I'm not Mr Money like Len, so I can't comment on the Deltec and Bubble King line of skimmers but I'm sure they're good or those who own them simply have the perception of good due to the cost ;)

I am using a BK mini 200 ver2 (yes my skimmer finally came in lol) now and love it, but it all depends on your budget. If you tight, then you may consider a used skimmer to, I know alot of people are getting out and breaking down tanks now so there are a lot of good used skimmers for sale.

I would look into the Octopus Extreme series. In particular the 200 0r 250. I run a 200 and love it!

I dont know if I really like the sicce pumps, atleast on the skimmer I had with was the Bubble master it was very inconsistent stopping and starting and overflowing the cup at times. Although it did pull a ton of air.
