Some people are now saying the big pumps we use might cause tank failure 8O Do you think this is a real concern? I use Tunze that oscillate on and off on each side, so the tank has some wave action. But now I'm afraid I might be hurting the tank?

I have heard this as well, when I was using my Tunze wavebox that the wave action could shorten the lifespan on tanks by a few years. That said I never had mine burst, and know of many reefers that ran wave boxs and their tanks didnt burst either.

I dont know what the lifespan of a well made tank is anyhow but I would assume 20+ years, and if you lose a few its probably not a big deal.

With good harmonic, it is possible to bust a tank with a relatively powerful pump. Take a look at the bridge that swing back and fore and collapse due to the wind back in the 1960's.

This is more applicable to wave maker, but for a water pump that work continuously, it is never going to build up much energy except a few pound of force at part of the panel if the output of the pump is pointing directly at it.

I think we would have heard about a "hurt tank" by now. even with the tunze wavebox and w2k pumps and other powerful wave pumps on the market for years, i think their would be some popular internet thread about it by now.

The rare event is duo to the chance of getting the wave to run at certain freq. need to builtr up the energy. Frankly, the water will spill out of the tank before any real damage is done. Unless you have one of the enclosed tanks.
