Since I'm on a coral buying spree, I thought it'd be a nice idea to jot down all the places for nice farmed corals I've come across (professional and hobbyist):

ORA (they don't sell directly, but they're a big pro farm)
vivid aquarium
pacific east aquaculture
liveaquaria (diver's den)
tropicorium
fraggle reef
ultimate frags
aquarium fanatics
wetthumbfrags.net
www.yourreef.com
rocky mountain frags
mr. coral
xiong corals
cherry corals
juicy corals
world wide corals
reefhotspot
uniquecorals

I know there's more, so feel free to add to this thread.

It's good to see so many farmed corals now. It wasn't like this 10 years ago. A lot of these farmed corals are really pricey due farmers farming the "high end" designer corals, but there's affordable farmed corals from many of these places as well.

Come up the coast to San Francisco, lots of hobbyists around here who have corals which quite honestly make some of those professional places look amateurish :D

(ok I'm really just bragging, those are some nice places you mentioned)

I know NorCal has a lot of crazy collector farmers. :) You guys are what drove the demand up for some of these designer corals! Well, I guess SoCal (especially Tyree) did our part too.

Hey sfsuphysics,

Saw your post on some other forum where you posted some sick frags. Where do you get your stuff up here in norcal? The only place I've found that has good stuff at reasonable prices is Neptune Aquatics in Milpitas. I'm looking for some frags to stock my tank.

Wait for my stuff to grow out :P I ponied up for the uber designer corals! I've been on a buying spree this month, but I should have the tank seeded by month's end, after which I'll start adding my fish.

Sick frags? me? No my frags are healthy :D

Seriously... I think it's a grass is greener on the other side thing here, because I don't think much anything I have is particularly cool/hot/sick.

As to where I get them? Honestly, I get them from friends, BAR club members, etc. Sure you can get instant gratification and just buy something, but I can honestly say I've paid more for salt mix than I've paid for coral, I just have no need to buy anything (LFS owners hate me :D).

Len, bah! Its your glassy eyed coral grubbers who drove up the price of the stuff we used to get for relatively cheap ;)

I just bought the Ice Fire Echinata only to realize that Karl is the originator of this "LE" coral :)

Didn't feel like doing a thread here, besides it's just pictures so appropriately placed. :)

Warning, a bit bandwidth intensive

Few months ago, I would've given you a sick 40-pack for free, Len!

(I just named it Icefire. Originator would be James of Aquascene :) )

Hey, so does it require or prefer bright lights? I don't know quite where to put it.

It prefers reefkeepers named Karl at the helm....

Also from what I understand it prefers to see nothing but other kick ass pieces too, anything brown and common... instant RTN from being so upset :D

Honestly, the best frags I've purchased have been from fellow reefers :), particularly if you are in a local club or something. I recently got a killer deal on Pearlberries, Hawkins, and a lot of other ORA corals that were 2+ inch frags for $20 / FRAG! It takes some patience, but there are folks out there. The trick is to find someone who is moving and NEEDS to get rid of their tank livestock haha.

I used Fraggle Reef and there frags are pretty good, but are on the extra small side. Most are doing well and have grown a lot. They give you 1" frags and I would prefer 2" or better. They are less likely to fall in the cracks or get bull dozed by the snails.

I bought frags from garf as a newb, and the SPS were the size of pencil erasers...and these were the common ones lol. It was over 10 years ago though so maybe things have changed.

Ive used AustinAquafarms for most my acans and love them good link.
