Got My First Acropora

I just got my first acro frag, wish me luck. I figured that I was doing well with the monti and the pocillipora, so now I will try an acro. I put it on the mag rock hopefully it will attach quick. I also got a candy cane frag as well. I also added a peppermint shrimp and I was able to distract the clownfish with food so she wouldn't rip his head off.

meh.. the acro will be fine. ive actually found that acros aren't that difficult to keep at all.. good flow.. good lighting.. youll be fine.

B is absolutely right! Hopefully, the perception of SPS being too difficult fades away. Especially with all the captive-raised SPS that's available. There's almost no reason to buy wild or supposedly 'maricultured' anymore.

I'd keep it high in the tank with that lighting and in an area with good flow. It should do fine.

I bought home made frags from my LFS. I trade in frags to him as well.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I do have an encrusting monti, so I am not too worried.

High light and high flow is present in my tank.

I have 3 iwasaki's over a 6' long 125 gallon about 6-8" above the water.

Cool beans. I wasn't aware of the Iwasaki's being better the others.

No doubt. They are very white like 10K. I use 2x40 watt NO actinics, but will upgrade to 2x39 watt T5's. The NO's add just enough blue to look about 12K in color, I think the T5's will make it look more like 14K.

I have never seen any evidence that mariculture isn't legitimate? The mariculture corals that come into LFS around in NOLA are pretty nice and are well established thriving colonies.

Though a lot come with hitchikers and tons of nasty bugs. Anything bought from those tanks containing mariculture should be streakly QT'ed and observed for a longtime before going into a main display.
