I got sent one of these today and I put it in my tank before I found out what it was:

How likely is this thing to go ghetto on my reef?

It is currently tiny, so it isn't picking on any other fish. I also have shrimp.

Well, they are aggressive as hell, quite possibly will snack on your shrimp when it gets bigger and may pick at your corals :(

I think the kids are at a good age to start learning target practice on moving targets. Buy them an inexpensive pellet gun at Walmart and let them solve the problem for you. :D

>looks around for PETA<

I've made mini spear guns using hypodermic needles and rubber bands, and I've used hook and line (smallest mustard hook you can find with barbs shaved off) very successfully.

Another trick if you have time would be to not feed for 2 days.

Then visit petco or some other store that sells the beta fish in the little cups. You can ask to have or buy one of the containers they house the beta in. Then with the lid on put a piece of fishing line on it. In the center - cut a hole or square that is a bit bigger than the fish you are trying to catch. Put a brine shrimp cube in there frozen of course, then fill with the tanks water and put it in the tank.

You - while holding the fishing line, are kneeling by the tank waiting for the fish to enter to eat. If you do this slowly the fish will sense the food and enter the holder. Once in, you pull it up trapping the fish in a container you can then take to whatever pet store you want...

I've done this for a large fish - a 3 1/2 " flame angle. I have also done this for a hitchhiker crab.

Your mileage may vary but hopefully you get the idea...

hahaha!! Neoglyphidodon melas. I had one of those once. I bought it because they turn a beautiful shade of noir. However, LONG before it even got there, I wanted to reach into the tank and rip its little head off with my bare hands. Have fun :P
