I think I am going to purchase one of these for my 180. Does anyone have one of these, and if so, what do you think of it? Also, what pump are you using for it? Thanks in advance.

I use it. It works great and holds a lot of phosban. I love the screw off top. The reverse flow is nice but my only complaint is sometimes i wish it didn't have the tube in the middle or else i can use a big media bag that is easier to replace.

I use one two and really like it. I use a small, old powerhead that I had. You don't need a lot of flow. Just enough to flow past the media without tumbling it. Tumbling the media leads to it breaking down.

Here's a related question...

But first, some background...

I had a TLF 150 in the 180g, but took it out when I got the 550. I added the 150 to my 20g. I am hopeful that it will keep the algae at bay. My issue is where I put the 150 in my 20g. I am very afraid of these things leaking, so I actually put the 150 inside the tank. My question: is there a giant problem associated with doing this? I can still hang in on the back of the tank if there is. If not, it stays in the tank.

Lemme know, peeps.

Everyone missed your question!

There's no problem sticking it in the tank. But the unit shouldn't leak. If you're afraid of the soft elbow areas leaking, just secure them with some zip ties.

I just moved up to the 550 too. I'm using an Eheim 300 pump to feed it (nice tiny pump with a ridiculously thick power cord :P). I can't detect phosphates in my tank, but i have cyano and dino growth, so I figured might as well install GFO again.

Thanks for the response, Len. Both are set up and running great! And I can already notice a difference in the 20.

phosban reactors work really well in general, I keep two of them on hand to run when needed. My only complaint about the product is the O ring in the lid can get pinched and lead to leaks

I don't even think I have enough flow into my reactor for the water level to reach the top of the reactor. ;)
