Well I have been doing 10G water changes in the tank (Biocube 29) and that has not helped the cyano. This week I let the tank go for 4 days without blasting the cyano off of the rocks and it started smothering corals so I used a powerhead to get the cyano off. Last evening was the second to last straw. I added Red Slime remover to see if that would work. I had to turn the skimmer off as this stuff made it go nuts.

I am planning on watching the tank closely the next few days and if need be do another 10G WC this week if there are signs of the tank failing.

The corals still look OK. I wish they had more color but that will be next if the cyano leaves. But then again I knew in the back of my mind that LPS are not that colorful.

I used red slime remover a few years ago with no ill effects. Good luck with it.

I think I need to do a water change now. I am unable to run the skimmer. It fills the cup in seconds. I even set the skimmer to the lowest setting.

I did notice the zoas were acting a little weird though. They were really extended upwards - appearing trying to get more light.

Still no cyano.

Corals are still stretching to the light and some color fading.

I am planning on a 5G water change tonight.

That's a good plan. "They Say" that water changes initially make problem algae worse, but it is still
the right thing to do. It comes out alright in the end if you do what you know you need to do. I would
make that water up in a large batch and let it warm and agitate for a good while before I added it though.
Let it ph balance out nicely since your corals are stressed.

Here is the latest pic from this weekend.

I am not impressed at all with this tank. It still looks blah and brown.

Zoas are brown, frogspawn and torches are brown. Looks ugly IMO.

I have not seen any other softies that would make a difference (Reason I started the hypothetical upgrade thread but that is not likely to happen)).

No more cyano but I dont know what direction the tank should go. I just dont like the way it looks. No WOW factor.

Rob, you're nuts. I think your tank looks great. Focus on keeping the cyano away and let everything in there grow and mature.

I'll give it a WOW!

Ever thought of a clam? A nice blue maxima down front and center might give you what you crave.

Very nice! 8)

How old are your bulbs? Changing them out might brighten the colors up a bit. If you're still considering some kind of upgrade, maybe go with the Nano-tuners LEDs. It'd open up a lot of options for you without requiring a new tank etc.

I wouldn't try a Maxima with the BC stock lights, though.

I have the nano tuners 4 x 36W upgrade already.

I am just bored with the brown soft corals. (I am not a fan of dark brown).

I think your tank looks good Rob. IMO if you run bluer bulbs the colors will pop again.

I disagree that LPS are drab. Have you considered a red and blue acan, or purple, or green with yellow stripes? How about a purple and green chalice (alien eye) or a blue and pink one (bubble gum)? How about the ORA green polyped toadstool? Theres as many color combos and names in LPS as there are in SPS.

Also, IMO any tank has to be mature and grown in to have WOW factor, even it they're not the most colorful in the world they can still have pizzazz.
