Hi,
If I were to build a new reef tank( no matter the size ) along with a sump/refugium and put a live dsb from the Crib. and live rock in both tanks and decided to wait 6 mos. or one yr. for it to mature, what would be the best food to feed it? There are all those little worms, bugs in and on the sand and rocks,in the water and they all reproduce, but if I don't feed them something they will all die. Now there is nothing in either tank except livesand and liverock and some macroalgae in the refugium. What would you suggest I feed my micro animals while my tank matures?
Thanks,

I'd imagine normal pellet food would be fine, but you'll need very little I'd assume.

Since you really have nothing but micro fauna in the tank, I would start out with items zooplankton can eat... phytoplankton is on the top of the list until you see increasing numbers of copepods, then some flake or very small pellets is OK as well. If you have mysids or amphipods in the tank, they'll eat rotifers, flake food, copepods, and pellets.

What about something along the lines of Kent Marine Phytoplex and Zooplex? ( or other brands )

Personally I don't like shelf stable liquid feeds for the most part but if you do use them, use them sparingly and less then the dosage listed on the bottle. I like refrigerated or frozen, in the order.
