hey everyone, it's been a while since I've posted anything on the forum. although I've been watching. i haven't been reef active since my tank crash two years ago. I don't know for sure how it happened, but during one of my holiday get together, one of the younger guest thought it would be a good idea to add some pool chlorine to the r/o storage tank. when i went to add some water to the tank i could instantly smell the chlorine and stopped. but it was to late. horrified i removed as much plant life i could and put it in the sump. and watched in horror as my tank turned white.
i returned the fish and corals that survived back to the retailer. (for pennies) for a store credit, and begin to survey the damage. all was lost, except you guessed it, the aptasia :(

I set up the tank on my work bench in the garage as the stand was old and i thought i would try an experiment. neglect the tank as much as i could and see how much i could get away with and still do a revival. no lights, no heater in the summer and no water changes.
things moved slow but after a year she was starting to get her color back i was on a aptasia killing spree. man that stuff is tough. meanwhile i was checking craiglist for a new tank. in June i found a 90gal tank and stand for $200.00 and began setting it up. this time without the money i had in the past (economy) i decided to go getto on my set up. just sump 30 gal, skimmer euro reef, and pc lighting. i figured anything was a upgrade from the garage.
man! as soon as i added heat and lighting the tank exploded with life. snails, slugs, hermit crabs all started to show up, small signs of polups and mushrooms and macro algae appeared.
after about a month, i went back to the retailer to cash in my credit. to my luck (but i'm sure to someone else dismay) there was some softies that were removed from a mature tank, who ever it was had to be upset to dismantle such a nice tank and i thank them.
so we are 7 months into this and here are some picks i took with my phone
