I will also be looking for suggestions for fish to put in my bare bottom 60 SPS cube. Please remember it will be open top so jumpers may be an issue. I know it is small for tangs and I have no interest in the swap out when it gets big approach. I want fish I can put in and leave. Fairly open ended on the suggestions. I suspect my kids will want a pygme angle.

gobies, blennies, and pseudochromis(dottybacks) are all good picks...and depending on if you want shrimp or not, Hawkfish - some nice species have been captive bred nowadays too - some of the smaller wrasses and anthias ...

Thanks JP, I guess I should add that shrimp are a must. Going to have cleaner and pepermint for sure. Fish need to be shrimp friendly.

A tank has to have a clownfish or two.

Firefish are nice too.

Now you know what I have in my 38.

What was the problem with the firefish?
I dunno, I think they didnt seem to care for the higher water flow I have with keeping SPS corals and seemed to have gotten a bit beat up - granted I still had the scopas tang in the tank at the time, but I never saw it going after them(3 firefish) unlike all the others it went after before I gave it its eviction papers.

once I get a new clean up crew established(they were the only fatalities resulting from the tank leak/transfer) to help with the hair algae, I'm wanting to see about some anthias and maybe a small reef safe wrasse...I have zooas and some LPS so I dont think I can go the pygmy angel route

I have been sucessful with coral beauties and flame angles in the past. I seem to always have one or the other in my tanks. In the 150 I had a coral beauty. Look in the left bottom of this pic.

I love orchid and springers dottybacks. Pink-streaked wrasse and some wetmorellas are cool, although I never had them.

Somewhere Matt has a couple of nano reef fish articles...

I have had 6-line and flasher wrasses before. I am worried about them jumping out of such a small open top tank.

yeah, maybe. Pretty sure that will be a problem with firefish too.

Swissguard basslets are really cool- they don't seem too jumpy.

I've always kept clownfish (ocsilleris - false perc's) and I've never kept an anemone. They always find something to love on. My current pair likes an orange Acan. It does seem to bother it.

I've never noticed anything picking on a firefish, but they are rather docile. I suspect a dottyback might be a bad tankmate for a firefish.

Or add the dottyback last.

I love the old Bi Color blennie and Tail Spot blennies. Nothing cutting edge but great fish.

Ok right now I have a rusty angle. Need more fish. Would like a wrasse but still concerned about it jumping.
