I looking around buying a new generator. Looking for portable 12.500 watts. Anybody have a brand they like over another one. I was interested Westinghouse. These storms lately are more likely and are now we are out for days instead of hours. Any recommendations

So during hurricane sandy I bought two generators a little Briggs and Stratton and a big generac ( both reliable ) the BaS was flooded due to the storm , covered the top and all , when the water from the ocean went down I tipped over to get the water out of the exhaust , the thing started right up and still runs till this day , during that storm it ran for two weeks straight not shutting it off once ( that one was for my tank and some lights around the house ) it tripped when I put the fridge on it so I got the generac , the generac is a beast but it also has a automatic low oil shut it off , when running it for days at a time it burns through oil and I was finding myself having to buy oil almost every time I went out for gas ..... not sure where your from but if you get a lot of power outages you should do some research on how to convert one of those gasoline powered generators into a natural gas generator , there’s videos on YouTube how to do it, good luck ?

stand by is way to go, I have Generac 20k it came with switch and it supports the whole house, I had generac portable but every time power went out I had to run back home to start the generator and turn off when power come back, it was 1 of the best investment I did by having stand by generator, tank is happy and family is happy, power is on in less than 60 seconds of power outage,

Agree. 20k for the whole house with automatic switch is the way to go. No worry for the tank and you have power when everyone else doesn’t.

20k is overkill, so I share this with 2 of my neighbors 1 of them has 40 breeder with LPS, they can have essentials going while power is out,

I bought this one late last year when I bought my house. I turned it on and it's relatively quiet. It's nice that you can just flip a switch and use propane if you needed to.

I like that one. Did you add a transwitch to main box.

Believe it or not the Predator generators from Harbor Freight rate very well and are comparable to honda generators.
