Old Reef octopus skimmer pump = work horse

Hi reefers,

Im setting up a net tank and Im debating on upgrading my reef octopus 150 skimmer that I’ve had for almost 9-10yrs.

My question to those of you that have the reef octopus skimmer with the VarioS pump, what’s ur opinion on the reliability of the VarioS pump?

It seems that the older pump I have is a work horse!!

I read a article a while back, Reef Octopus believes the varios line (with routine maintenance) should last 10 years. You also have the added benefit of it being DC, which helps on the electric bill.

Run the skimmer as is with the old ac motor, pick up a varios this weekend when they go on sale.
