PS 282 needs help

Hi everyone,

At my daughter's school (PS 282 on 6th avenue and Berkeley) someone was kind enough to donate a 90 gallon reef ready oceanic tank some time ago. I've watch the tank steady decline over the last few months. I spoke to the person taking care of the tank and he told me that someone donated it but he doesn't know how to maintain it. I am donating my extra lights and protein skimmer from the reef tank I broke down last year. They have a basic FOWLR system, sump and in-sump protein skimmer. They do not have anything else,they need a heater, therometer, test, glass cleaner or Ro/Di. If anyone has small items they would like to donate to help this elementary school bring back their salt water tank. I think, if I can get it back to good it might be a great display for the children. I have been out of practice for a while since I broke down my tank and I'm a little rusty. If anyone would like to help me by donating time that would be a great help. It's a shame that such a beautiful tank is being so neglected.

I don't have time right now, but I'll contact via PM soon about this. I have a similar project going at PS58 in Carroll Gardens. I know someone who graduated from 282 last year. I had no idea they had a tank there. Randy

Thanks so much, They got the tank around october and it's really in need of some help. I figured I could get the water quaility right, get the lighting right put some fish in there for the kids. I'm also looking into some fake corals to give the tank some color. All is good on the home front the kids are getting big.

Thanks!!!!! I am going to arranage something and I will let you know, if I don't get any donations I will do a bake sale the get the funds needed to buy the stuff. I will post a date that I arrange with the school and we can get the tank looking good.

The tank is no where near ready for real corals I figured some fake pieces after everything else is taken care of. I don't think it's a good idea. I'm justtrying the get the water condtions good and stable to maiitain a healthy tank for some colorful fish but that's it. The bake sale would be for things like a heater, timers, RO, supplements salt and things for the scool to keep to maintain the tank.
