i was making the same sump with 30 gal tank,it crack by the bulk head hole, anyway i made it out of Plexiglas 30 long X 15 x 16 high 31 gal ,i divided it into 3 equal compartments first baffle at 10 inches x 9 inches high, second baffle at 19 inches x 9 inches high, next baffle 20 inch x 9 inch at 1 inch off the bottom next baffle at 21 inch x 9 inch ,had i known i would have made the first section larger and the other smaller everything is tight in the first section with the skimmer in there

You can do it hit or miss and hope you left enough open area for backflow from the DT or you can measure your open area and use a tank calculater to know how many gallons you can drain from the DT without overflowing.

In my sump the main holding baffles are 14" tall the baffles in the return chamber is 5" tall. I subtract 5 from 14 and get 9". The distance between the tall main baffles is 8" and the tank is 12" front to back, using a tank Calculator,I came up with 3.74 gallons. Now the distance from the top of the main baffles to the top of the tank is 2.5". Again the tank is 12"x36"x the 2.5" area left from baffle to top of the tank is 4.68 gallons. Add these two up and I have 8.42 gallons of reserve should the power go out.
