i get plenty of coralline growth (all colors). Is there a way to promote a desired color over others? i get plenty of pink/purple but would love to have more of the dark reds - anything i can do to help?

I find it is all dependent on light levels (assuming Ca and alk are stable, and water quality is high). Greens like less light, so do reds (more penetrating blue spectra light). Pink and purple's seem to grow faster and like higher light levels.

The easiest method to promote one color over another is to scrape the desired color in an area of high flow to spread the algae spores.

i was thinking of that, but then you run the risk of scrapping off the color you like and leaving the other colors to spread and fill it's spot.

You needn't scrape off much...I wouldn't do anything bigger than a dime sized area. A quarter size for your tank though, Albert.
