We've all been hearing about how LED's will be replacing the MH. I currently am only using t5 and pc lights and don't want to be suckered into buying something that will be obsolete. That's exactly what happened right after I bought my HD dvd player.

Definitely!! There will quite a few folks there who are totally up to speed on LED lighting...Sanjay..Joy from PFO, Wingo who is designing Led lighting fixtures right here in our own backyard...

If you run a 'search' here on MR you'll also find various discussions among hobbyists regarding led lighting!

LEDs are a complicated subject. I'm a lighting designer and know a fair amount about them. I can't get into it now but if you find me at the swap I may "shed some light" on the subject. For general lighting they are NOT more efficient than Metal Halide. For aquarium lighting it may be a different story as the color temperature is a lot different (much higher) and that benefits LEDs. Lamp life is also very good, but it depends greatly on heat dissipation. The hotter the LED the lower the output and the shorter the rated "life". Lamp life is also another point of contention as LEDs don't really burn out but rather degrade to a point that their output is below a threshold of usefulness (roughly 70% initial lumen output). ok, i guess i got into it a little.

ps- I use the word "lamp" as that's the jargon word for "bulb", not as in table lamp.
