Hello my fellow MH'ers,
My birhtday was a couple of days ago and decided to stop by my favorite store to give myself and my tank a present. Upon walking inside one of the most descent store in my area (Elmhurst, Queens), I was devastated to see that they were closing their business. I have shopped there ever since I've acquired my nano-cube tank for saltwater and have invested heavily on snails, hermits, and a handful of corals (be they LSP, SPS, or softies). The only other saltwater reef stores within walking distance ( I'm by Elmhurst Hospital ) have a horrible selection and sometimes horrible setups. So, with a mixed emotion of great joy for the bargains and a deep regret for the loss, my desire to buy everything I had my eye on took over. I checked my pocket for cash and emptied it to the last penny, from a new electronic thermometer to a bunch of frozen foods, my reefers impulse took a hold of me.
For those looking for a bargain, H2O is having a 30%-60% discount on everything. Great selection of corals from brains to nephthea and from firefish to adult triggerfish. Definitely worth a stop if you are looking to browse on their selection or gather more gear.
Since my neighborhood reef shop has closed, Does anyone know of any other descent if not great reef shops? I already know of Wonderful World and would like to gather more options. Hopefully someone has a little secret cove of treasure shop that they can point to me. The closer to said location, the better!

Yea I guess they had it coming, but then again to me they had the most descent selection out of any store i went to.

Thanks for the store Autoponicz & InkBlue, I'll be sure to check it out especially Aquatic Express...how's their stock there? Haven't been in the hobby that long to have witnessed Sea Vision Zany.

Dabo765, H2O is across the street from Wendy's on Queens Blvd and Grand Ave/Broadway which ever side your on.

I will miss the place, but personally, I am amazed that any LFS specializing in SW can stay in business. This is expensive stuff, at high risk...how much of their orders never make it to their tanks? If you mark up the stuff too much, you price yourself out of business. Look at all the places that started out great then faded away or went out of business... When Sea Vision opened it was astounding....but I hear that it faded fast. Aquatic Treasures on Woodhaven? Done in by the blackout. I liked H2O, was thrilled when they opened....didn't go that often because there's a limit to how much I can put in my tank...if things don't die, things don't get added. But I knew when it first opened that I had to enjoy it while it lasted...because I didn't expect it to be there for long.

I still have My snowflake eel, blue velvet damsel and blue devil damsel from H2O.
Close and convenient.
It sucks for any LFS to close down no matter who they are. Just remember that even if u disapprove of there business decisions.

Yea it's definitely sad to see any store close, I just wished they were not closing. But times change and economy sucks so what can anyone do.

On another note does anyone know how a mushroom propagates naturally? Do they form the two mouths first and then split or have there been instances that they just split first. I'm seeing a black mark on on side and it's having an indent. The mushroom is pretty close to a candy cane coral but the candy cane is a little higher up, about 2 inches higher. This is the first time I've observed this. I'll try to get a decent shot and post it on another topic...maybe.
