how long do M/H lamps last before changing them? is there a big differance in time between screw in and double ended?

Typically people change out after 8-12 months of use.

However, a great article by Sanjay notes that bulbs lost little output (~22%) over the course of 17 months of use. He also found that the spectrum of bulbs shifted to a less overall blue look, and that energy consumption increased as bulbs aged.

i change mine after 9 months. the bulb will light for a lot longer time, but your corals (sps) will not get the same intensity.
i think de runs hotter, more intense but cover less area.

thank you all very much! i have been power compacts getting 6 months out of them, doing my home work still about m/h . got a 48'Lx18'Hx24'W i think, it a 100 gal. i am setting up i want to start keeping poras. thank you again
