I have a Derasa clam in my tank for a few months, and I moved my powerheads a few weeks ago and it shifted the sand where my clam was sitting (attached to a frag disk). So I pulled him out but the flow must have caused him to shift his foot as he was slumped over on the disk (which is why I noticed it in the first place. So I removed him from the disk and turned off the flow and set him back on the disk on top of the rockwork. Now, my question is how long does it usually take for them to plant their foot? I checked after about 5 minutes, he had opened back up but was not connected still. Any thoughts?

Hi MikeyZO, not sure about the deresa. My croceas would take a day to a few days weeks to plant their foot. I have a maxima for over a year that refuses to plant it's foot regardless of what I've put under it. I finally gave up and thought 'great it is going to plant it's foot on the bottom pane', but it never did.

I wouldn't stress it if I were you. I'm sure that the more you move it to see if it attached the longer it will take.

You could also shoot "ClamCrazy" a pm!

It didnt take that long when I first got it, set its foot pretty quickly. Thing is I had to turn off half my flow to keep it upright on the disk for now, and if a crab or snail comes along, its gonna knock it over lol... Hmmm... what to do.

Mikey, if your concerned with it being knocked over you can trying placing it somewhere where it cannot be knocked over. But do remember to give it the space it needs to open.;)

yeah, thats what I wound up doing. I turned off the powerhead on one side of the tank and put it on a frag rack thats near that powerhead. When I moved it from the rock to the rack it had actually started to attach, but just barely. And thats where it will stay for a day or so. I went out a few hours ago and just got home and its still upright and open. Once it reattaches I will move it and turn the powerhead back on.
