I have 22 panels which I installed myself. I also am doing it as a business and have two jobs starting. LIPPA installs a new meter on your home which goes backward if you produce more than you use. They don't buy it back at the same rate they sell it to you for but it is nice to see on a sunny day that you are not using any power.
My panels are rated at 4,000 watts but that is probably in Arizona, they usually produce just under 3,000 watts on a real sunny day.
They are warranted for 25 years and there is no maintenance.
I got my $14,000.00 rebate check back in 59 days so I did not have to pay tax on that money I borrowed from my annunity. The atate and federal government is giving me back $5,000.00.
If your interested I can set you up with them and they will tell you exactly how much it will cost you and what you will save. We would have to take a picture of your roof which needs to face south with no trees shading it.

Paul. I am going to send you my contact info via PM. I am sure the house that I'm negotiating is facing south so that will not be a problem. I would love to hear more about the incentives that the feds and state give back.

The system does not have any batteries, it uses an inverter to convert the DC into AC. When I generate more power than I use, my meter spins backwards, reducing my bill. Edison will change your meter for free for one that does that.
I do not have to remove the snow from the panels. They are smooth, black tempered glass and generate slight heat from the sun to melt the snow. Not instantly but mine are clear already and it snowed last night.
I started a business getting these installed on houses

A lot of people have been asking me how much I am saving with the solar panels and I really diden't know so I looked up my payment history fro LIPA and was kind of amazed.
I compared my bills last year with this year Oct, Nov and Dec because those are the only full months my panels were installed.

2007 ----------------------------------------2008

Dec, 40KW $7.07 a day ----------------------33KW $6,40 a day

Nov, 40KW $7.27 a day -------------------------24 KW $4.60 a day

Oct, 42KW $$8.01 a day ---------------------17KW $3.55 a day

I don't think I know how to attach my LIPA usage chart here but if anyone is interested I can send it to you, or if I figure it out I can put it here also.
The months before that it was not completed 100% and my new reversible meter was not yet installed.
The Solar company told me at the beginning that I would save $900.00 a year which is about a third of my usage. Don't forget, it doesen't work at night, in the rain or now when there is snow covering some of my panels.
They all have to be clear for it to work.
So I figure I am spending an average of $150.00 a month now as opposed to $225.00 a month last year.
That comes out to exactly a $900.00 savings a year.
