I'm not sure about their methods, but my way normally gets me neck deep pulling my seine net. I'll start collecting in August. All kinds of cool stuff to be found. An other method I've used when I was 13 years old kept me dry and in the boat.......but it's not legal:shhh:. I wouldn't dare do that again.

Boozeman, don't read this.

I will be getting the boat ready at the end of next month (I know it's 20 degrees out now)
I always have collecting on my mind.
I still have about 12 grass shrimp, 12 mud snails and a hermit crab from last years collection when we went to Port Washington near
"Boozeman rock" to collect.
I know a few places around the island with great marine life cause I'm always bangin around the shores.lets hang one weekend cause your right next to me and who knows ya might get turned on to a few new hobbies. we have three hobicat's in pointlookout and I can close jones beach feild #1 anytime I want with my permit.the best place I've seen on Island for variety of marine life in tide pools and estuary's was shelter Island.water pristine and you can see things walking around on bottom.I've seen long lines of glass shrimp and plenty of jona & fiddler crabs for the Octopus too.I lived in port wash and use to hangout at Boozerman rock.I'm not gonna say what we did their though. :tongue1:

Let me clarify.
Do I have to submerge myself into the water either partially or fully, ie with swim/scuba gear (goggles, mask, tank)?
Or is it like crabbing, just drop a net and wait?

Yes you have to almost totally submerge yourself in the water to get from the boat to shore. Then the water is only a few inches deep but we do sciene for the grass shrimp.
FishFinder the other place is in LLoyds Neck and it has loads of Diamond Back Terripins but they are protected and too fast to catch anyway. I do sometimes catch them while using SCUBA. I don't take them and I have never seen a baby.
That place is huge, acres but it is a little far.
Now the problem for most of you guys will be, I can't collect on weekends. My weekends are always booked on the boat with my wife and social engagements and my wife don't collect. Maybe high heels but thats it.
